North Florida planting calendar
North Florida and the Panhandle have a short but real winter with several frosts and freezes most years, and long, hot, wet summers. It is the coolest of the three UF/IFAS garden regions.
What to plant each month in North Florida
Gardening runs in two windows: spring plantings from February-April once frosts end, and a fall window from August to November. Cool-season greens and roots go in from September through winter, but frost can hit tender crops through March. Summer heat, humidity and daily rain shut down most vegetables except okra, southern peas and sweet potatoes. The months below follow the planting calendar for North Florida from the Cooperative Extension sources listed.
