Spring dates before the last frost assume the soil has thawed and is dry enough to work. After a late or wet spring, wait for that even if the date has passed.

Where frost is rare

Raspberries struggle with hot summers and low winter chill. UF/IFAS does not generally recommend them for southeastern home gardens; in California plant in mid to late winter, and in Arizona grow them only at higher elevations.

Zone 9Jan-Mar (California; UC IPM says mid-January to March)

Based on UC IPM Planting Caneberries; UF/IFAS Gardening Solutions: Blackberries (raspberries not generally recommended in the Southeast); University of Arizona Backyard Gardener #75 (northern Arizona, fall-bearing types). No Texas A&M or Hawaii raspberry guidance found. Warm-winter areas are matched to zones approximately, so use the months for your region.
