Where frost is rare

Where frost is rare cosmos shifts toward the cooler months: South Florida lists it for planting from fall through spring (September-May), while North Florida plants in spring and early summer. In the Arizona low desert garden cosmos is planted March to June and blooms July to November; around San Antonio a July sowing gives fall color.

Zone 11Jan-May and Sep-Dec (South Florida)

Based on UF/IFAS Gardening Solutions 'Flowers to Plant in Florida' monthly calendar and UF/IFAS cosmos page; University of Arizona AZ1100 Flower Planting Guide for the Low Desert (Cosmos bipinnatus row); Texas A&M AgriLife Bexar County Timely Tips (July 2011, May 2005). Zone mapping is approximate and ours: UF/IFAS 'North Florida' (north of SR 40) is mostly zones 8b-9a, 'Central' (SR 40-70) about 9b-10a, 'South' (below SR 70) about 10a-11; the Arizona low desert (Phoenix area) is about zone 9b-10a. No UC ANR or Hawaii CTAHR table was found. Warm-winter areas are matched to zones approximately, so use the months for your region.
