Spring dates before the last frost assume the soil has thawed and is dry enough to work. After a late or wet spring, wait for that even if the date has passed.

Where frost is rare

In the Deep South, Florida, the desert Southwest and coastal California, snapdragons are a fall-through-winter flower. Set out transplants once fall weather cools (October-November). They bloom through winter and into spring, then decline in late spring heat, usually by April-May in Florida. Heat rather than day length stops flowering, and no variety is truly heat-tolerant. North Florida plantings may need cover on the coldest nights.
